Georgian fighter killed in Ukraine as Russia and Ukraine swap 160 prisoners each
A Georgian volunteer fighting for Ukraine was reported killed, marking another Georgian casualty in the ongoing Russia‑Ukraine war.
On 26 June, the Russian Defence Ministry announced a prisoner exchange with Ukraine: 160 Russian servicemen were returned from Ukrainian‑controlled territory and, in return, 160 Ukrainian prisoners of war were handed over to Russia. The exchange, conducted in Belarus, is the seventh such swap since the conflict began and follows a similar exchange on 5 June and the first of the year on 5 February.
The swaps are part of a regular monthly process established after February 2022, involving the transfer of captured personnel between the two belligerents.
