Wales considers increasing fly-tipping fines to £5,000

The Welsh Government is consulting on proposals to significantly increase fines for fly-tipping. Local politicians in Cardiff have advocated for raising the maximum fixed penalty notice from £400 to £5,000 to create a stronger deterrent and fund enforcement measures such as CCTV and drones.

In Wrexham, illegal dumping activity has reportedly shifted locations following legal action. While Wrexham Council successfully secured an interim High Court injunction to halt unauthorized development and waste dumping at a site near Nant Lais and Old Smelt Road, local officials claim dumping has since resumed at a different site off Castle Road and Talwrn Road in Coedpoeth.
