Wales council approves new affordable housing developments in Powys and Caerphilly

Powys County Council has appointed Morganstone Ltd to build 16 energy‑efficient, one‑bedroom homes on the Ael‑Y‑Bryn/Pen‑Y‑Bryn site in Ystradgynlais. The project, part‑funded by the Welsh Government, will replace outdated flats, be owned and managed by the council and aim to meet the local housing emergency while supporting net‑zero ambitions. Council deputy leader Cllr Matthew Dorrance said, “These new homes will make a real difference for local people in Ystradgynlais.”

In Caerphilly, Davies and Jones Construction has lodged a reserved‑matters application for a 44‑home development near Trinant Sports and Social Club. The scheme, approved in outline planning in 2023, will include a mix of market‑rate and affordable units, flats and off‑street parking, though some concerns were raised about building on a greenfield site adjacent to an animal sanctuary. The application is currently open for public consultation.
