Wales extends £1 bus fare scheme for young people

The Welsh Government has announced an extension of its £1 bus fare scheme for young people, covering individuals aged 5 to 21, until March 2027. The initiative aims to make travel more affordable for work, education, and leisure.

Since the program's inception, more than 9 million journeys have been made, with over 38,000 travel cards issued to those aged 16 to 21. The scheme originally launched for the 16–21 age group in September 2025 and was later expanded to include children aged 5 to 15 in November 2025.

Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper stated that the scheme is making a real difference in the daily lives of young people across Wales by enabling affordable travel.
