Wales extends £1 bus fare scheme for youth to 2027

The Welsh Government has announced the extension of its £1 bus fare scheme for young people through March 2027. The program provides £1 single fares and £3 day tickets to individuals aged 5 to 21 who hold a mytravelpass. These fares are applicable to bus services across Wales and certain cross-border routes.

Since its inception, the scheme has facilitated over 9 million journeys. Originally launched in September 2025 for 16 to 21-year-olds, the program was expanded to include 5 to 15-year-olds in November 2025. To date, more than 38,000 mytravelpass cards have been issued to the 16-21 age demographic.

Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper stated that the initiative is making a significant difference in the daily lives of young people by providing affordable transport for education, work, and leisure.
