Wales First Minister and British Council discuss international strategy

Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth and British Council Chief Executive Scott McDonald met in Cardiff to discuss a new international strategy for Wales. The discussions focused on leveraging the British Council’s global network to enhance Welsh engagement in arts, education, and language.

A key component of the proposed strategy is the Erasmus+ program, which the British Council is preparing to act as the National Agency for. The First Minister expressed strong support for the program to bolster educational exchange in a post-Brexit environment.

The partnership aims to create global opportunities for Welsh schools, colleges, and universities, specifically helping the higher education sector attract international students and build research partnerships. Additionally, the collaboration seeks to support Welsh artists and cultural organizations in engaging with international audiences and maintaining cultural links, such as the Welsh Language Project in Patagonia.
