Wales introduces new trains and coach services

Transport for Wales has launched its first Class 197e trains on the Cambrian Coast Line, connecting Machynlleth and Pwllheli. These new trains, built in Wales, replace rolling stock that has been in service for over 30 years. The fleet features modern amenities including air-conditioning, faster Wi-Fi, at-seat power points, and bilingual digital information screens. To improve accessibility, platform sections at six stations have been raised to assist passengers with reduced mobility.

Simultaneously, a new coach service named TaithCymru has commenced operations, connecting North and South West Wales. Running daily between Bangor and Carmarthen, the service stops at several key locations including Caernarfon, Porthmadog, Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, and Aberaeron. The service aims to reduce journey times by more than an hour and provides connections to rail and ferry services via Holyhead. The coaches are equipped with Wi-Fi, reclining seats, and air-conditioning, with provisions for cyclists and wheelchair users.
