Wales invests £4.5m in cycling infrastructure ahead of 2027 Tour de France

The Welsh Government has announced a £4.5 million investment in cycling facilities and tourism infrastructure to prepare for the Tour de France Grand Départ in 2027. This funding aims to create a lasting legacy for the region by encouraging cycling tourism and supporting local businesses.

Through the ‘Croeso i Feicwyr’ (Welcome to Cyclists) programme, 54 projects across Wales will receive £3.19 million. These initiatives include improving cycle paths, installing repair stations, providing e-bike charging points, and enhancing visitor information. An additional £1.3 million has been allocated to help businesses and community organisations upgrade their facilities for cyclists.

Key projects include the Holyhead Gateway Coastal Cycling Route and the creation of cycling hubs in locations such as Welshpool, Newtown, Machynlleth, Llandrindod Wells, and Llanfyllin. In South Wales, the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority will receive funding for a ‘King of the Mountains’ tour circuit. Other investments target the Ystwyth Trail, Swansea Aerodrome, and various bike hire schemes in Barry Island, Porthcawl, and Bridgend.
