Wales planning developments: housing approvals and withdrawn proposals

Several planning and housing developments are progressing or being contested across Wales. In North Wales, Cyngor Gwynedd has approved a proposal by housing association Adra to build 36 affordable homes on the outskirts of Caernarfon. The development in Peblig will include a mix of social and intermediate rental units, including 10 apartments, three bungalows, and 23 houses, to address a high demand for local housing.

In Brecon, plans to expand the historic Morgannwg House care home have been withdrawn. The proposal sought to add 10 en-suite bedrooms and extra living areas to the Grade II* listed building to ensure economic sustainability. However, the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (BBNPA) had previously recommended refusal, citing insufficient detail regarding the impact on the sensitive heritage location.

In South Wales, a new retrospective planning application has been submitted for an unauthorized Traveller site extension in Blaina. The application by Hayston Developments and Planning Ltd seeks to legitimize the site at Glyn Milwr where five families are currently residing. The developers argue that there is a significant unmet need for Gypsy and Traveller pitches in the region.
