Wales rail services face disruption from Storm Austen

Train services across parts of Wales are facing significant disruption due to the arrival of Storm Austen, which is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds. Precautionary timetable changes have been implemented for West Wales, the Heart of Wales line, the Cambrian line, and the North Wales Coast.

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for parts of Wales, with gusts of 50–60mph possible, and up to 70mph in exposed coastal locations. As a result, Transport for Wales has cancelled services between Chester and Holyhead, affecting stations such as Shotton and Flint.

In addition to the weather, a signalling fault at Chester is causing further delays to services connecting to Crewe, Liverpool Lime Street, and Manchester Piccadilly. Network Rail, Transport for Wales, and Great Western Railway are monitoring the situation, with replacement buses being deployed on affected routes. Ten seasonal response teams have been positioned across the network to manage weather-related incidents.
