Wales receives funding for renewable energy and industrial development
Two renewable energy projects in South West Wales have secured significant funding through the Welsh Government’s Ynni Cymru programme. The Renewable Power Pembrokeshire project in Pembroke Dock received £997,566 to develop a 750kW solar installation and a 400kW battery storage facility. Additionally, the Ynni Sir Gâr project at the Xcel Bowl in Carmarthen was awarded £233,032 for a 200kW rooftop solar installation, a heat pump, and a 75kW battery storage system.
Separately, a £700 million UK Government programme aims to unlock investment and create jobs across various regions, including South-east Wales. The Cardiff Capital Region is among the areas being considered for support through a new strategic sites accelerator. This scheme is designed to bring stalled industrial and commercial developments forward, such as science parks or sites supporting defence, technology, and manufacturing. The programme intends to attract up to £2 billion in private investment by addressing barriers like planning issues, grid connections, and access to finance.
