Walfrido Warde linked to Moraes sanction strategy and Lula contact allegations
Lawyer Walfrido Warde has come under scrutiny following the disclosure of messages regarding a strategy to protect Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes from U.S. Magnitsky Act sanctions. According to reports, Warde proposed a legal maneuver involving the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to challenge the application of the Act by the Donald Trump administration, arguing it violates fundamental rights. Warde reportedly offered this assistance to former banker Daniel Vorcaro without requesting compensation.
Simultaneously, investigations are examining alleged connections between Vorcaro and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Messages suggest that Warde facilitated communications between Vorcaro and the presidency, including mentions of a gift of Macallan whisky sent to the President. While the Planalto Palace has categorically denied any improper influence or receipt of gifts, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has filed a criminal complaint seeking an investigation into whether the Executive branch acted in favor of Vorcaro’s private interests.
