Walgreens to close Saco, Maine, location in November

Walgreens has announced that its location at 461 Main Street in Saco, Maine, will close permanently on November 10. The company is currently undergoing a strategy of ‘store optimization’ to downsize operations and address underperforming locations.

The closure has raised concerns regarding medication availability in Maine, particularly for senior citizens who rely on local pharmacies. This decision follows reports of staffing shortages and inconsistent hours at other Walgreens locations in cities such as Portland and Westbrook, leading to customer frustration. The Saco closure may be among several planned as the company works toward its 2027 goals.
