Walgreens to establish global capability centre in Chennai

Walgreens India Private Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a global capability centre (GCC) in Chennai. The facility, planned for DLF Downtown in Taramani, will focus on technology and business services to support the company’s global enterprise operations.

The new centre is expected to create more than 250 high-value jobs in its first year, with plans for further expansion in subsequent years. The announcement was made in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

This initiative aligns with the state government’s recently unveiled Tamil Nadu Global Capability Centres Corridor and Development Programme. The programme aims to develop employment corridors across Chennai, including the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, Mount-Poonamallee High Road, and Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR), to facilitate the growth of high-value functions such as software development, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
