Walid Jumblatt seeks political mediation in Lebanon

Walid Jumblatt, leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, is reportedly adopting a cautious political strategy to position himself as a mediator within Lebanon's complex political landscape. Following a period of political stagnation, Jumblatt has recently re-established contact with Baabda Palace, visiting with his son, Taymour, to mend relations after previous tensions regarding diplomatic settlements and sovereignty concerns.

Jumblatt's approach involves maintaining open communication channels with various political factions, including Hezbollah. While his relationship with the group fluctuates, he has recently avoided hostile stances, supporting the Palestinian cause and resistance against Israel. However, he continues to express concerns regarding Hezbollah's involvement in regional conflicts and emphasizes the necessity of placing weapons exclusively under state control through dialogue rather than force.

Political sources suggest that Jumblatt may soon act as a mediator to resolve the current deadlock between the presidency at Baabda and Hezbollah. His efforts aim to provide domestic coverage for the state while facilitating dialogue between the party and the authorities during a critical period for the country.
