Walid Regragui criticizes Senegal following controversial AFCON final
Former Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui has criticized the lasting fallout from the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal. Speaking as a consultant on Canal+, Regragui expressed frustration over the delay in resolving the match's outcome, which is currently awaiting a verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Regragui condemned the conduct of the Senegalese players, specifically citing their decision to leave the pitch following a penalty awarded to Brahim Diaz. He described the incident as a stain on African football, stating, “The big loser today is African football!”
Furthermore, Regragui singled out Senegalese international Ibrahim Mbaye, criticizing him for using social media to post on Snapchat from the locker room while the match was interrupted. Regragui labeled the behavior a “shame,” noting that the lack of decisive intervention by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has left the sport's reputation damaged.
