Walikale and Ngororero report kidnapping and drowning incidents
In Walikale, two young girls were kidnapped on August 12 while traveling between the villages of Maniema and Misheeshe on the Mutongo-Nyabyondo axis. Unidentified armed men intercepted the victims, robbed them of their belongings, and took them to an unknown location. Defense forces have arrested two suspects believed to be involved in the abduction and robbery; they are currently being held in Mutongo.
Community leaders and the head of the Ihana grouping, Mwami Kitwana Ngulu Séraphin, have called for intensified searches to locate the girls and for increased security patrols in the high-risk area. This incident follows previous warnings regarding the presence of armed men in the territory.
In Ngororero, two brothers, aged 15 and 13, drowned in the Nyabarongo River while attempting to swim. Local authorities reported that the boys were traveling to visit a cousin when they entered the water. While the body of the younger brother was recovered by locals, the older brother remains missing.
