Walker Cup: GB&I prepares for match play at Lahinch
The Walker Cup, a premier amateur golf competition between Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) and the United States, is approaching its next installments. The upcoming contest at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland, features a match-play format including singles and foursomes.
GB&I captain Dean Robertson has expressed optimism regarding the windy weather conditions at Lahinch, suggesting the elements could serve as an equalizer against a dominant U.S. team. The GB&I squad is utilizing strategies inspired by the Ryder Cup, focusing on team bonding and psychological preparation to counter the high world rankings of the American players.
Looking further ahead, the 2026 Walker Cup is scheduled to take place from September 7-8 at St. Andrews Links in Scotland. This future edition will also follow a match-play format, featuring ten players per team competing in head-to-head matches.
