Walking and Power Walking Offer Simple Health Boosts

Regular walking supports overall wellness by improving circulation, joint mobility, digestion, blood‑sugar balance, mood and energy levels. Experts note that even short, consistent walks keep joints lubricated and can reduce stiffness from prolonged sitting.

Power walking raises the intensity of a walk, prompting a higher heart‑rate, greater oxygen uptake and increased calorie burn. Exercise physiologist Alexander Rothstein, CSCS, says power walking “turns up” the benefits of ordinary walking, while Professor Laura A. Richardson, PhD, describes the effort level as a 7 on a perceived exertion scale. A 10‑minute power‑walk can improve blood pressure, glucose levels and muscle engagement, offering a quick, efficient way to enhance cardiovascular health.

Both habits require no special equipment and can be incorporated into daily routines, making them accessible strategies for improving physical and mental health.
