Walking and trekking trends rise among Italian vacationers
Walking and trekking have become increasingly popular activities among Italians during vacations. According to data from Federalberghi, 67.7% of vacationers engaged in walking, while 51.5% participated in excursions and trips to explore local territories.
There is a growing trend toward mountain vacations in Italy. While seaside stays remain the most popular at 62%, mountain tourism reached 28% in 2026, showing an increase from previous years. This shift is often linked to the search for cooler temperatures.
Trekking offers comprehensive physical and mental health benefits, including improved cardiovascular and metabolic health, muscle toning, and stress reduction. The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week for adults. To avoid injury, experts suggest progressing gradually, staying hydrated, wearing broken-in footwear, and carrying basic first-aid supplies.
