Walking methods for weight loss and digestive health

New research and fitness trends highlight the diverse health benefits of walking. In Japan, the ‘666 walking method’ has gained popularity, offering two main versions: an 18-minute routine consisting of 6 minutes of slow walking, 6 minutes of brisk walking, and 6 minutes of slow walking to cool down; and a 72-minute version featuring 60 minutes of brisk walking. While the 18-minute version serves as an accessible starting point, health experts note that meeting the World Health Organization’s recommendation of 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity per week is necessary for significant weight management.

Separately, a study from Fujita Health University in Japan has demonstrated the immediate impact of walking on digestive health. Researchers found that just 20 minutes of light walking can significantly stimulate intestinal motility. By monitoring bowel sounds, the study showed that indicators of digestive activity, such as sound intensity and frequency, increased significantly within one to two minutes after completing the walk. This suggests that walking provides near-instantaneous benefits for the digestive system, offering a simple and safe way to aid digestion.
