Walking styles and their specific health benefits

Different walking styles offer distinct health benefits depending on individual goals such as weight loss, cardiovascular strengthening, or stress reduction.

Power walking, performed at speeds of 5 to 7 km/h, is highlighted as highly effective for cardiovascular health. It can improve circulation, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. For optimal results, it is recommended to move arms at a 90-degree angle in rhythm with the steps.

Interval walking, a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), is noted as an effective method for weight loss. By alternating between periods of fast, energetic walking and slower recovery phases, the body can experience an ‘afterburn effect,’ continuing to burn calories even after the activity has ended.

Nordic walking is also mentioned as a method for a full-body workout.
