Wall Street banking AI job postings rise 49%
The banking sector on Wall Street is experiencing a significant shift in labor demand due to the integration of artificial intelligence across various operations, including trading desks, compliance, and human resources. According to analysis from corporate hiring data firm Draup, AI-focused job postings in the banking industry have increased by 49% this year, reaching a total of 139,819 listings.
A standout trend is the massive surge in demand for ‘agent orchestration’ skills, which involve enabling different AI agents to work together on shared tasks. Job postings requiring this specific skill have skyrocketed by 1,721%. Other technical demands are also rising, including LangGraph (up 679%), LlamaIndex (up 291%), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) (up 259%).
Beyond pure technical engineering, financial institutions are increasingly seeking expertise in AI governance, risk management, and responsible AI. Mentions of responsible AI references rose by 657%, AI governance by 394%, and risk management by 359%. Draup CEO Vijay Swaminathan noted that field engineers must now possess deep domain knowledge in their specific functional areas alongside technical proficiency. Currently, the average base salary for generative AI managers is reported to be around $190,000.
