Wall Street moves amid Trump opening ceremony and chip‑sector pressure

U.S. stock indexes opened higher on Tuesday after President Donald Trump delivered a ceremonial opening from the White House. The Dow Jones rose 0.15% to 52,978 points, the S&P 500 gained 0.41% to 7,513, and the Nasdaq climbed 0.58% to 25,982. Trump highlighted the new "Trump Accounts" program for children’s investment accounts, which has attracted more than six million families.

Later in the session, mixed results emerged as pressure on semiconductor stocks weighed on market sentiment. The Dow inched up 0.24% to 53,183, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.20% to 7,522 and the Nasdaq fell 0.73% to 25,930. Shares of Micron Technology, KLA, Marvell, Broadcom and AMD each fell about 5%‑7%. Concerns were amplified by a Reuters report that China’s DeepSeek is developing its own AI chip, threatening Nvidia’s dominance; Nvidia’s shares dropped more than 2%. Investors also awaited U.S. trade‑deficit data and upcoming Federal Reserve minutes.
