Wallenius SOL expands RoRo fleet with two vessels from Royal Wagenborg and secures long‑term contract with Smurfit West‑

Wallenius SOL announced the purchase of two roll‑on/roll‑off vessels, Bothniaborg and Balticborg, from Royal Wagenborg. At the same time the company signed a long‑term Contract of Affreightment with Smurfit Westrock, the operator of Europe’s largest kraftliner mill in Piteå, Sweden. The deal is presented as a step toward a more reliable, sustainable maritime backbone for northern‑European industry, especially during winter ice conditions. CEO Elvir Dzanic said the acquisition and partnership will strengthen capacity, reach and resilience of the service network connecting the Bay of Bothnia with key northern European ports.

The transferred Contract of Affreightment ensures continuity of logistics for Smurfit Westrock’s 700,000‑tonne annual kraftliner production, supporting the mill’s role as a major employer in Piteå and its renewable‑energy‑focused operations.
