Wallsend crash victim highlights healthcare delays at John Hunter Hospital

Chris Clancy, a 48-year-old victim of the Wallsend crash, has spent a week at John Hunter Hospital awaiting surgery for a collarbone injury. The crash occurred when a car allegedly lost control at the Transfield Avenue roundabout during a Knights bus farewell event.

While expressing support for the hospital staff, Clancy described the broader health system as ‘broken’. He noted that as a trauma centre, the hospital must prioritize urgent cases, often leading to delays for other patients. Clancy also highlighted issues regarding nursing shortages, suggesting that current pay increases are insufficient to prevent staff from moving to other states.

Clancy has been informed of his eligibility for psychological support through the NSW Compulsory Third Party scheme.
