Walmart and Symbotic expand automation partnership with $6 billion commitment

Walmart and Symbotic have announced an expanded agreement to implement automation capabilities across 25 US regional distribution centers. The partnership involves an initial commitment of approximately $6 billion in spending over several years to support Walmart’s global supply chain network.

The collaboration utilizes Symbotic’s proprietary AI-driven software and integrated solutions, including BreakPack each-picking and SymMicro micro-fulfillment systems. These technologies aim to optimize the movement of millions of cases, increase storage capacity, and improve e-commerce inventory management.

Financial filings indicate that Walmart is a primary driver of Symbotic’s business, accounting for 90.5% of the company’s revenue in the quarter ending June 27, 2026. Previous agreements have included significant development funding and technical protections, such as continuity rights and escrowed technical materials, to ensure supply chain stability.
