Walmart and Tyson Foods launch initiatives to combat food insecurity
Major corporations are expanding initiatives to combat food insecurity in the United States. During the 13th annual Walmart and Sam's Club Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, local shoppers and suppliers raised $111,295 for the Lowcountry Food Bank. This funding supports food distribution across 10 coastal counties in South Carolina, serving an estimated 204,000 people facing food insecurity. Partners such as Tyson Foods and Bimbo Bakeries USA have contributed substantial fresh food and protein donations, including a 44,500-pound contribution.
Separately, Tyson Foods is addressing nutritional gaps for students through partnerships with organizations like GENYOUth. A summer meal initiative in Georgia and Arkansas provided over 620,000 meals to 286,000 students across 18 school districts. Additionally, Tyson Foods has committed $1 million over two years to the Harvest to Hallways initiative, a childhood nutrition program launched by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
