Walmart denies claims of personalized digital pricing

Walmart has issued a denial regarding unsubstantiated claims circulating on social media, such as TikTok, alleging that the retailer uses technology to manipulate prices on a personal level.

The controversy stems from Walmart’s transition from traditional paper price tags to digital electronic shelf tags, which allow for rapid price updates. Some critics have suggested that the company might adjust prices based on real-time demand or change prices between the shelf and the checkout counter. Additionally, there have been unproven allegations that Walmart uses personal consumer data, such as a customer's residential location, to implement individualized pricing.

Walmart has denied these claims, stating that they “price the product, not the person.”
