Walmart distribution center potluck outbreak hospitalizes 19 people
At least 19 people were hospitalized following a suspected food poisoning outbreak at a Walmart distribution center in Tennessee. Emergency responders reported that up to 30 individuals underwent triage, with approximately 80 people potentially impacted by the illness.
911 calls indicated that the sickness spread among employees after a workplace potluck. While one caller suggested that homemade rice brought into the facility might be the source, the Tennessee Department of Health has not yet confirmed the cause.
Walmart issued a statement noting that the illness did not originate from its products and that the public is not at risk. The company stated it is cooperating with local emergency management and health officials to investigate the incident.
