Walmart expands contactless payments and curbside pickup services
Walmart is expanding its digital and payment capabilities to enhance customer convenience. The retailer has begun rolling out ‘Tap to Pay’ contactless checkout options at select stores and Sam’s Club locations. This rollout, which started on August 24, is planned to reach all nationwide stores and clubs by the end of 2026, with fuel stations expected to follow by mid-2027. The feature allows customers to use eligible contactless cards, phones, or smartwatches for transactions.
Additionally, Walmart has launched ‘Express Pickup,’ a free curbside service designed to streamline holiday shopping. Through the Walmart app, customers can place orders for curbside collection in as little as one hour, depending on item eligibility and store capacity. The service is currently being introduced at 500 stores with plans for nationwide expansion to meet increasing consumer demand for rapid fulfillment during peak shopping seasons.
