Walmart faces consumer backlash over dynamic pricing amid penny‑list clearance tips

Walmart shoppers are sharing strategies to locate items priced at $0.01 on the retailer's internal Penny List, advising use of the Walmart app, weekday visits, and scanning barcodes to capture deep clearance markdowns.

At the same time, customers have taken to social media to allege that Walmart’s digital shelf label system and algorithmic pricing are inflating prices at checkout. Critics claim the retailer is effectively “stealing” by displaying lower advertised prices that change to higher amounts when scanned, citing examples such as children’s shoes advertised at $3 but ringing up at $18. Walmart has not commented on the accusations.
