Walmart investigates Flipkart over alleged ₹150 crore kickbacks

Walmart has launched an internal investigation into its Indian e-commerce subsidiary, Flipkart, following whistleblower complaints of financial misconduct. The probe centers on allegations that employees in the smartphones and luggage and travel accessories (LTA) divisions received kickbacks totaling over ₹150 crore (approximately $16 million) from vendors.

According to reports, employees allegedly accepted payments and favors in exchange for providing vendors with preferential treatment on the platform, such as increased visibility to drive sales. Some of the alleged misconduct reportedly occurred through Flipkart’s business-to-business (B2B) operations, including the Flipkart Wholesale channel and the B2B Sales Program.

This marks the third such investigation into financial misconduct at Flipkart by Walmart in less than three years. A spokesperson for Flipkart stated that the company has robust governance processes and is committed to the highest standards of integrity and compliance, noting that they take all concerns seriously through established processes.
