Walmart Mexico records costly basket in Hermosillo as Bodega Aurrera sales dip
Mexico's consumer protection agency, Profeco, identified the Walmart store on Boulevard José María Morelos in Hermosillo as charging 912.50 pesos for the regulated basic basket of 24 items, exceeding the 910‑peso cap by 2.5 pesos. The agency noted that most monitored stores stay below the limit, while the lowest price was recorded at a Bodega Aurrera in Reynosa.
In its second‑quarter 2026 results, Walmart de México (Walmex) reported that Bodega Aurrera is experiencing lower foot traffic and smaller purchase baskets. Same‑store sales grew 1.8 % but the average ticket rose 2.9 % as traffic fell 1.1 %. The retailer plans a new low‑price strategy, trimming assortments for Bodega Aurrera Express locations to improve efficiency and attract price‑sensitive shoppers.
