Walmart offers dividend growth and price appreciation despite low yield
Walmart remains a notable option for dividend investors despite a yield of less than 1%. While high-yield stocks often face limited price appreciation, Walmart has demonstrated the ability to provide both income and significant stock price growth.
The company has increased its dividend payout for 53 consecutive years, signaling financial reliability. Over a five-year period ending in early October 2026, Walmart’s stock price rose 128%, outperforming the S&P 500’s gain of approximately 70% to 77% during the same timeframe.
In its fiscal 2027 second quarter, Walmart reported a net income of $6.3 billion, a 9.3% increase year over year. However, the company faces ongoing challenges, including rising operating expenses from fuel costs and more cautious consumer behavior. With a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 38, market expectations remain high.
