Walmart opens high-tech fulfillment center in Stockton, California
Walmart has opened a new 900,000-square-foot high-tech fulfillment center in Stockton, California. This facility is the company’s fifth next-generation distribution center, following previous openings in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, and Pennsylvania.
The Stockton facility utilizes intelligent automation technology developed by Knapp to streamline operations. By using an automated storage and retrieval system, the center reduces the order fulfillment process from 12 steps to just five. This technology brings items directly to employees at picking stations, significantly reducing the manual labor previously required for workers to navigate large warehouse spaces.
The center is expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs and is designed to accelerate delivery speeds for customers on the West Coast. Additionally, the facility will support the Walmart Fulfillment Services marketplace, allowing third-party sellers to utilize the retailer’s logistics network.
