Walmart to invest $1.3 billion in Georgia fulfillment center

Walmart has announced plans to build a $1.3 billion high-tech, next-generation automated fulfillment center in Carnesville, Georgia. The 1.5 million-square-foot facility, located at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center, is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs in Franklin County.

This facility is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to expand its automated ecommerce fulfillment network. The company has already implemented similar next-gen centers in California, Indiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. These automated sites utilize advanced technology, including conveyor belts and scanners, to reduce the order fulfillment process from 12 steps to five, significantly increasing productivity.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp highlighted the investment as a major boost for rural economic development, noting that it provides high-quality job opportunities within local communities. Construction on the site is expected to begin later this year or in late 2026, depending on the specific project timeline.
