Walmart to invest US$12.4 million in new Quetzaltenango store
Walmart has announced a US$12.4 million investment to develop a new commercial project, Walmart Quetzaltenango Periférico, in the western region of Guatemala. The store is currently under construction in zone 9 of Quetzaltenango, specifically in the “El Cerezo” area on the road to San Marcos.
Scheduled to officially open in November 2026, the new branch aims to consolidate the retailer's presence in Guatemala's second most important city. The project is expected to boost the local economy through job creation and the integration of small and medium-sized regional producers into the supply chain for groceries, textiles, and technology.
The facility will feature an omnichannel shopping experience, offering both physical and digital e-commerce options, including dedicated parking for pickup services. Joanna Ortiz, director of operations at Walmart, stated that the expansion seeks to bring value to more families while contributing to the community's economic growth.
