Jared Bush, head of Walt Disney Animation Studios, recently discussed the iterative nature of storytelling at the Created in L.A. event. Bush emphasized the necessity of letting go of ideas to transform a project from good to great, noting that the process of refining a story continues until the final frame is animated.

Bush shared insights into the development of the film ‘Zootopia’, revealing that the project was originally conceived as a spy movie. Early versions of the story featured a different social dynamic where prey animals ran the city and predators were required to wear ‘tame collars’ to regulate their emotions. In these early drafts, the character Nick Wilde was the primary protagonist rather than Judy Hopps.
