Walt Disney World resort access and mobile ordering policies tested

Recent field tests at Walt Disney World Resort have addressed social media concerns regarding increased restrictions at deluxe hotels. Following updates in late June 2026, rumors suggested that non-resort guests were being barred from entering monorail-loop hotels, using mobile ordering, or accessing pedestrian walkways like the one connecting Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom.

The restrictions were largely driven by a new GPS geofencing update in the My Disney Experience app. This system verifies a user's real-time location to prevent offsite visitors from using mobile food ordering as a way to bypass security tollbooths and secure free parking at deluxe resorts, such as the Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Testing conducted by Attractions Magazine on August 7, 2026, during the opening night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, found that non-resort guests still maintained access to resort lobbies, public areas, and mobile ordering systems. While the geofencing remains in place to manage parking and dining, testers did not encounter restrictions preventing them from using the monorail or walking through the Contemporary Resort.
