Walter Cortés leads homage to Carlos Wiederhold in Puerto Montt

Mayor Walter Cortés of Puerto Montt, together with Argentine mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt Galilea, unveiled a commemorative plaque at the historic Casa Wiederhold, the former residence of Carlos Wiederhold, recognized as the founder of San Carlos de Bariloche. The ceremony, attended by officials from Chile and Argentina, diplomats, descendants of the Wiederhold family and local residents, highlighted the shared heritage of the two border cities and the ongoing efforts to restore sites such as the Port San Carlos and develop new tourism projects.

Cortés emphasized the spirit of cooperation between the sister cities, stating that joint work “strengthens our communities” and underscored plans to further integrate cultural, economic and tourism initiatives across the Andes.

The event marked a symbolic renewal of the historic ties linking Puerto Montt and Bariloche, reinforcing their commitment to collaborative development and mutual recognition of regional history.
