Walter Koenig, Star Trek actor, dies at 90

Walter Koenig, the actor known for portraying Pavel Chekov in the original 'Star Trek' series, has passed away at the age of 90.

His death has prompted tributes from various members of the franchise, including co-star William Shatner. Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk, issued a statement acknowledging that while he and Koenig were not close personally outside of filming the series and its subsequent six films, he deeply respected Koenig’s connection to the fanbase.

Shatner noted that Koenig was known for his authentic engagement with the 'Star Trek' community, often choosing to interact directly with fans at conventions rather than remaining behind signing tables. George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu, also shared reflections on Koenig’s legacy within the franchise.
