Walter Lee Muhammad arrested for new drug trafficking charges

Walter Lee Muhammad, a 46-year-old Atlanta drug trafficker, has been arrested on new federal charges for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. This arrest comes less than two years after former President Joe Biden commuted Muhammad’s decade-long sentence for a 2020 conviction involving fentanyl distribution.

Federal prosecutors stated that the new charges stem from an August 5 incident in which DEA agents observed Muhammad loading bags of suspected drugs into his vehicle in Atlanta. Muhammad then drove over 330 miles to Greensboro, North Carolina. A subsequent traffic stop by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office involving a K-9 unit led to the discovery of 29 kilograms of suspected cocaine in his vehicle.

Following the arrest, DEA agents searched Muhammad’s Atlanta apartment, uncovering additional narcotics. Jae W. Chung, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division, noted that the defendant returned to trafficking fentanyl despite having received a second chance through his previous sentence commutation.
