Walter Pasko remains in detention following money laundering conviction

The Federal Oral Court of Resistencia has rejected a request to lift the preventive detention of accountant Walter Pasko. Pasko was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role as the leader of a fiscal illicit association and money laundering in a case involving fraudulent invoices.

Pasko’s defense argued that the trial and verdict had eliminated procedural risks and claimed that maintaining his detention violated the principle of equality with other co-defendants who remain free. However, the prosecution and private plaintiffs opposed the request, arguing that the magnitude of the sentence and the defendant's economic resources create a high incentive to evade justice while the sentence is under appeal.

The court agreed with the prosecution, stating that a non-final guilty verdict does not exhaust the precautionary purposes of preventive detention and that the legal process remains ongoing.
