Walter Weiss makes ÖFB-Cup history at age 62

Walter Weiss, aged 62, made history in the ÖFB-Cup during a second-round match between SC Altach and SV Bischofshofen. Substituted into the game in the 80th minute, Weiss became the oldest player ever to appear in the competition, returning to the pitch more than 33 years after ending his active career in 1992.

The match, which ended in a 7-0 victory for SC Altach, was marked by significant challenges for SV Bischofshofen. The club had previously suspended regular operations due to the lack of a home stadium and had been denied admission to the Regional League. Despite these issues, the team participated in the cup based on their sporting qualification from the previous season.

Reports suggest this appearance may have been the final match in the club's history, following an open letter from the organization titled ‘R. I. P. BSK 1933’. Weiss was substituted in for 57-year-old Stefan Prähauser.
