Waltrop toy locomotive playground closed for safety repairs
The toy locomotive playground located in the pedestrian zone on Dortmunder Straße in Waltrop has been temporarily closed due to safety concerns regarding its impact protection.
The existing cast-infall protection, installed in 2018, has deteriorated at the edges, losing its cushioning properties and creating a safety risk. Previous attempts to repair the surface with various adhesives were unsuccessful, and a professional renovation was deemed too expensive.
To resolve the issue, the city is replacing the old material with grass grid pavers. This new solution is expected to be more durable and cost approximately half as much as the previous method. The playground will remain closed for several weeks to allow the grass to grow and to permit the removal of graffiti from the equipment.
