Walvis Bay leads Namibia trade as intra-African commerce hits N$13.5bn

Namibia’s Walvis Bay port served as the nation’s primary gateway for international trade in July 2026, handling N$3.9 billion in exports and N$6.3 billion in imports. Other significant trade points included Eros Airport, which facilitated N$2.3 billion in exports, and the Katima Mulilo border post, which handled N$1.7 billion in exports.

On a continental level, Namibia’s trade with African nations totaled N$13.5 billion in July. This comprised N$6.2 billion in exports and N$7.3 billion in imports, resulting in a N$1.2 billion trade deficit with the continent. While the Namibia Statistics Agency noted the importance of intra-African trade for economic diversification, activity remains heavily concentrated within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which accounted for 99.3% of Namibia’s intra-African exports.

Key export commodities to African markets included non-monetary gold, precious stones, fish, and petroleum oils. Major African export markets for Namibia included South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique. On the import side, nickel ores, commercial motor vehicles, and base metal concentrates were leading commodities.
