Wanda Rodríguez becomes first female Chief Umpire in LVBP history
Wanda Rodríguez has made history in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) by becoming the first woman to serve as Chief Umpire in an official regular-season game. The 23-year-old from Mérida, Venezuela, officiated behind the plate during the October 17 matchup between Tigres de Aragua and Tiburones de La Guaira at the Estadio Universitario de Caracas.
Rodríguez, trained at the Venezuela Umpire Camp, previously made history as the first female umpire to lead an LVBP All-Star Game in 2024. Her professional background includes experience in the Dominican Summer League and the Caribbean Series Kids.
In league play, the Tigres de Aragua have maintained a strong start to the season with a 5-1 record, recently securing a 7-6 victory over Tiburones de La Guaira in a ten-inning game. The team is also preparing for the arrival of Major League Baseball player Jorbit Vivas.
