Wanda Rutkiewicz biographical film set for 2027 release

A biographical film titled ‘Wanda’ is set for release in February 2027, chronicling the life and pioneering mountaineering achievements of Wanda Rutkiewicz. Directed by Adrian Panek, the production focuses on the historic 1970s all-female expedition to Gasherbrum III in the Karakorum range.

The film will depict Rutkiewicz’s determination to organize the expedition despite facing resistance from a male-dominated climbing community, bureaucratic hurdles, and political complexities. The narrative explores the physical and psychological challenges of the climb, including extreme weather conditions and internal team tensions.

Katarzyna Wajda will portray Rutkiewicz, starring alongside Julia Kijowska, Vanessa Aleksander, Zuzanna Galewicz, and Wiktoria Gorodecka. The production is handled by Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych, with distribution managed by Kino Świat.
