Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, a prominent veteran of the Warsaw Uprising and a celebrated social activist, has passed away at the age of 99. Known by her wartime pseudonyms ‘Atma’ and ‘Pączek’, she served as a scout and liaison for the Home Army (Armia Krajowa) during the 1944 uprising.

Following the war, Traczyk-Stawska earned a degree in psychology from the University of Warsaw and dedicated much of her life to teaching children with special needs. She was also a tireless guardian of historical memory, leading efforts to locate graves of fallen insurgents and advocating for the establishment of the Warsaw Uprising Insurgents Cemetery and its Memory Chamber.

Polish leaders, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, paid tribute to her legacy. Tusk described her as an example of responsible patriotism, while Trzaskowski honored her as an Honorary Citizen of Warsaw, noting her lifelong commitment to teaching values of dignity and courage.
